The Institute of
Petroleum Chemistry,
Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was founded in 1970. The scientific line of the basic
studies carried out at the Institute is the chemistry of
Russian oils: composition, structure, properties,
processes and mechanisms of oil conversion and surface
effects, scientific fundamentals for the methods of
enhanced oil recovery and hydrocarbon refining.
|
Based on the results of basic investigations
carried out at the Institute developed are scientific
fundamentals of more effective methods for forecasting,
surveying and exploring hydrocarbon accumulations,
advanced technologies allowing one to increase the depth
of oil refining, to improve the quality of petroleum
products and to extend the fields of their application. |
For about 20 years basic and applied
researches are carried out dedicated to the solution of
one of the most important problems - enhanced oil
recovery. A new approach to the development of effective
oil-displacing systems was suggested. Seven new
commercial technologies for enhanced oil recovery were
devised. They are applied in real practice of the
development of West-Siberian oil fields. Due to their
application more than 1 million tonnes of incremental oil
were produced. |
The Scientific Research Information Center
including the Museum of Oils accumulates the information
obtained at the Institute's laboratories on the
composition and properties of oils, comprehensive data on
their geological, geochemical and physico-chemical
parameters. The studies are carried out on the stability
and transformation of the components of oil
contaminations in various natural objects of West
Siberia. For the solution of regional environmental
problems and for the sustainable development the
databases are formed and GIS-technologies are developed. |
Unique properties of nanosized powders of
metals and metal-containing materials were found. The
methods for the production and control of the properties
of high-effective adsorbents based on nanosized aluminum
powders were developed. On the basis of adsorbents of
different types (fibrous and powdered) novel technologies
of water purification from oil and petroleum products
were developed. A whole complex of means intended to
eliminate the consequences of oil and petroleum product
spills during their storage and transporting was worked
out. The filtering-and-adsorption technology for sewage
treatment from petroleum products was devised. |
At the Institute there are developed the
devices for researches and control of petroleum product
quality (thermostatic regulators, microcalorimeters
etc.). The octane tester and the digital laboratory
densimeter were entered into the State Register. |
The technical expertise of two Institute's
laboratories in the field of analysis of the quality of
oils and petroleum products and analysis of environmental
components has been accredited. |
The starting point of the innovation activity
of the Institute is the protection of intellectual
property. The Institute keeps in force more than 60
Russia patents and files foreign applications. Protected
by patents the technologies are marketable. The Institute
sold 9 licenses for IPC technologies. |
The Institute of Petroleum Chemistry, SB RAS,
is reputed not only in Russia but abroad as well. For
some years the Institute's staff performs works on the
shelf of South China Sea (Vietnam). The Institute carries
out joint works with the Faculty of Chemistry of the
University of Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and with the School
of Geology and Geophysics of the Oklahoma University
(USA). Joint researches are carried out with Petro-Canada
Lubricants (Canada) and Dunwell Petro-Chemical Company
(Hong-Kong). |
